Women’s Basketball Downs Simmons, 56-49
The women's basketball posted a 56-49 victory over Simmons in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest on the road on Thursday evening.
JWU was paced by sophomore Jenna Juron (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) with 19 points, two rebounds and four steals while junior Ayla Walter (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) had 13 points and a team-high six rebounds in the victory for the Wildcats.
Liz O' Connor recorded a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds in the loss for Simmons.
The two teams battled back and forth throughout the early stages of the first half with the score tied 11-11 with just under ten minutes left in the stanza. The game was tied 22-22 heading into the locker room at halftime.
The game was tied 29-29 early in the second half before JWU used a 12-0 run, capped by a pair of free throws by Walter for the 41-29 lead with 11:18 left in the contest. The Wildcats extended their lead to as many as 15 points before taking to the 56-49 victory.
With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 5-9 for the year and 1-1 in the GNAC while Simmons falls to 2-10 on the season and 0-2 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, January 14th when they travel to Anna Maria for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at 1:00 p.m.
