Women’s Basketball Drops 61-46 Decision To UMass Dartmouth

The women's basketball squad dropped a 61-46 decision against UMass Dartmouth in a non-conference contest at the Tripp Athletic Center on Tuesday evening.

Junior Ayla Walters (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) and sophomore Justine Hughes (New York, N.Y.) each had eight points for Johnson & Wales while senior Katurah Andrews (Hartford, Conn.) tallied four points and grabbed a team-high 10 boards, six steals and five blocks in the setback for the Wildcats.

Colleen Moriarty paced UMass Dartmouth with a double-double, scoring 25 points with 10 rebounds while Kelsey Garrity notched 14 points, eight boards and seven assists in the win for the Corsairs.

The two teams traded leads throughout the first half with Johnson & Wales holding the 22-21 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.  JWU held UMass Dartmouth to just 25.9% shooting from the field in the first half of play.

The game was tied 31-31 with just under 15 minutes left in regulation before UMD used a 17-4 run, capped by a layup by Garrity to take the 48-35 advantage.  The Corsairs led by as many as 18 points in the second half before taking the 61-46 victory.

With the loss Johnson & Wales falls to 2-6 for the year while UMass Dartmouth improves to 7-3 on the season. The Wildcats will return to action on Thursday, December 15th when they travel to Framingham State for a non-conference contest at 6:30 p.m.
