After that school year, in 2015, Tony Rufo's condition worsened. With that, Katie Rufo made a tough decision – she took the year off and headed back to Natick to be with her father.
Katie Rufo did not foresee any of this.
The half-decade since she graduated from Marian High School in 2013 has been on a tumultuous emotional journey that has reminded her of the importance of family and of helping others.
"I could not have believed it," the Natick resident and recent Johnson & Wales graduate said recently. "My coach was saying to me, 'If you could do it all over again, would you?' I answered, 'Absolutely.' "
