NEWPORT, RI – Two runs in the top of the eighth inning gave the Johnson & Wales University softball team a victory on Tuesday. The Wildcats defeated Salve Regina, 5-4.

Johnson & Wales: 28-11
The Seahawks scored a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth off JWU starter Kristin Frost. Senior Noelle Weiss came on in relief to get the Wildcats out of the fifth then worked the final three innings to get the victory.
Katie Rufo brought home Gavin – who was placed on second via the international tiebreaker – with a single. Pinch hitter Kayla McKinnon reached on an error that allowed pinch runner Taylor Fay to score the winning run.
The Wildcats open the GNAC Tournament on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
