Sailing Places Third at New England Dinghy Tournament

NEWPORT, RI – The Johnson & Wales University sailing team continues to build momentum during the spring season. The Wildcats had their best regatta of the season as they placed third at the New England Dinghy Tournament.

Johnson & Wales tied Middlebury with 62 points, but the Panthers won the tiebreaker based on the number of high-place finishes. The host Salve Regina won the event with a score of 57.

The A boat of Peter Sterflinger (Centerport, N.Y.) and Thomas Pluchino (Centerport, N.Y.) came in second overall thanks to nine top-four finishes including victories in the second and ninth races. They also posted four second-place finishes.

The B boat also had a good day as captain Brett Doty (Holtsville, NY) and crew Caoilinn Boyle (Plymouth, Mass.) placed eighth. Their best finish was a second-place result in the third race.

Next up for Johnson & Wales is the Savin Hill Central regatta, hosted by Tufts on April 15-16.
