Sailing Hosts Fourth Annual Carmody Cup

The 4th annual Thomas G. Carmody Memorial Alumni regatta was sailed on Narragansett Bay Saturday as part of JWU alumni/family weekend.

The format for the regatta was that each skipper remained in their designated boat and the crew rotated boats after two races so they could sail with the various skippers. With seven returning sailing alumni combined with current sailing team members, a fleet of 11 boats hit the water at 9:30 with eight races completed prior to the lunch break, which families and friends of the tem members enjoyed at the Save the bay facility.

Racing continued after lunch, completing another ten races in constantly shifting gusty winds. At the end of the day the Carmody Cup was awarded to winning Skipper Winsor Williams and Crew Erin Meltzer. Racing was close and intense throughout, and reading the wind was important.
