WINTHROP, Mass. – Whether in the back row or at the net, junior Cameron Ponce has become a defensive mainstay for the Johnson & Wales University men's volleyball team. His efforts were recognized by the conference office with GNAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
It's the second time the San Jose, Calf. Native has earned the award. He originally collected the honor on March 14, 2016. Wentworth's Collin Ritter was named Offensive Player of the Week and Inelson Alves from Regis picked up Rookie of the Week.
Ponce, who attended the GNAC SAAC Leadership Forum on March 25, averaged 2.31 digs per set and 0.85 blocks per set in a 3-1 week. He had four blocks against Emerson and Mount Ida, and notched 12 digs versus Emerson and 10 against Wentworth. Against Emerson he recorded his second triple-double of the year with 13 kills, 18 assists and 12 digs.
