PROVIDENCE, RI – The Johnson & Wales University men's volleyball team was clicking on all cylinders Tuesday night. The Wildcats won their eighth match in a row, 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-20) over Regis.
Regis: 6-14, 1-8 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 13-12, 5-3 GNAC
Johnson & Wales got out to a fast start, building a 7-3 first-set lead on a block by Zach Turner and Donovan Kelley. The Wildcats had four blocks and were aided by nine Regis hitting errors in the opening set. A Cameron Ponce ace put JWU up 17-10 in the second set, but the Wildcats gave the Pride a glimmer of hope before finishing off the set.
Ponce rolled off eight-straight points in the third set as JWU jumped out to a 17-8. Seven errors allowed Regis to get back within 19-18, but Nick Bitetto and Sanjae Holloway had two kills each to help JWU put away the match.
Holloway led all players with 12 kills and added two blocks. Bitteto followed with nine winners while Matt LaVasseur and Donovan Kelley chipped in seven. Libero Alex Seda produced a match-high 13 digs, his fifth double-digit dig game in a row.
Drew Beimel and Jeff Ramos had a half dozen kills each as the Pride was limited to a .118 hitting percentage. Johnson & Wales hit .345 with a 27-19 advantage in digs.
The Wildcats are on the road Saturday to take on Mount Ida and Wentworth.
