PROVIDENCE, RI – The Johnson & Wales University men's volleyball team jumped out to a 2-1 lead at Emmanuel, but the Wildcats couldn't hold on for victory. Johnson & Wales lost 3-2 (27-17, 27-29, 25-23, 24-26, 9-15) the Saints on Wednesday.
Emmanuel: 4-7, 1-1 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 5-12, 0-3 GNAC
Johnson & Wales got out to a fast start in the first set and had a chance to take a 2-0 lead. A service error gave JWU a 25-24 lead, but the Saints rallied to even the match. An Alex Seda kill put JWU two points away from victory in the fourth set, 23-22, but three errors down the stretch forced a fifth set. Emmanuel went on a 7-2 run in the deciding set to claim the victory.
Four different Wildcats had 10 or more kills, led by Kanila Chang at 16 and Sanjae Holloway produced 14. Three players produced double-digit digs, including setter Cameron Ponce who had a 41-assist, 17-dig double-double.
Emmanuel won despite JWU having an advantage in nearly every statistical category. The Wildcats hit .189 with 64 digs and nine blocks. Johnson & Wales did give the Saints 50 points through hitting and service errors.
Johnson & Wales is back on the court March 10 when it takes on Pine Manor and Southern Vermont.
