PROVIDENCE, RI – The Johnson & Wales University men's volleyball team won for the seventh time in its last nine games as they went on the road to defeat Albert Magnus 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-14) on Tuesday.
Johnson & Wales: 17-13, 6-5 GNAC
Albertus Magnus: 2-14, 0-12 GNAC
The Wildcats got out to a fast start in the opening set as the serve of Jason Rhee (Aurora, Colo.) staked JWU to an 8-0 lead. The Falcons pulled within 17-12 in the final set, but JWU forced AMC into four errors down the stretch as the Wildcats finished the match on an 8-2 run.
The rookie trio of Michael Foglia (Wayne, NJ), Matt McCarthy (Millis, Mass.) and Josh Pitzer (North Kingstown, RI) led the way offensively. Foglia had a team-high 10 kills while McCarthy was next with eight and Pitzer added seven. Rhee handed out a match-high 31 assists while Andrew Bueno (New Bedford, Mass.) topped all players with 10 digs.
Johnson & Wales hit .591 in the first set on its way to a .406 rate for the match. Meanwhile, the Falcons were held to a -.013 clip thanks in part to 29 digs and five blocks by the Wildcats.
JWU plays its final regular season road game on Thursday when it travels to Emerson for a 7 p.m. contest.
