Men’s Volleyball Blanks Mount Ida, 3-0
The men's volleyball team posted a 3-0 victory against Mount Ida in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Harborside Recreation Center on Wednesday evening. The Wildcats posted a 25-20 win in set one before taking a hard-fought back-and-forth battle for a 30-28 win in the second set. JWU then closed out the victory with a 25-20 win in the third and final set.
Johnson & Wales was led by freshman Shawn Kennedy (West Barnstable, Mass.) who recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs while senior Eric Minnich (Concord, Calif.) had nine kills, three digs and three service aces. Freshman Gerard Daniels (Miami, Fla.) had 32 set assists and nine digs while senior Steven Velez (San Antonio, Texas) had 12 digs in the victory.
Sophomore Spencer Hastings (Orlando, Fla.) recorded a match high 14 kills and 14 digs for Mount Ida while senior Thomas Belton (Springfield, Mass.) had eight kills and seven digs in the setback. Senior Shane Wilson (Gloucester, Mass.) tallied 18 set assists and six digs for the Mustangs.
With the win Johnson & Wales is now 5-3 for the season and 2-2 in the GNAC while Mount Ida falls to 1-6 on the year, 1-4 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, February 16th when they host Rivier for a Great Northeast Conference contest, starting at 7:00 p.m.
