Men’s Volleyball Defeats Daniel Webster, 3-1

The Johnson & Wales University men's volleyball team posted a 3-1 victory against Daniel Webster in a non-conference contest at the Harborside Recreation Center on Monday evening.  The Wildcats took the 1-0 lead after a 25-16 win in the first set.  Daniel Webster responded with a 25-15 win in the second set.  The back-and-forth continued with a 25-22 win for JWU in the third set to take the 2-1 lead.  The Wildcats then closed out the 3-1 win with a 25-15 victory in set four. 

Johnson & Wales was led by freshman Shawn Kennedy (West Barnstable, Mass.) with nine kills and seven digs while fellow rookie Dan Struebing (Coventry, R.I.) had nine kills and seven blocks for the Wildcats.  Freshman Gerard Daniels (Miami, Fla.) had 26 set assists, six digs and five blocks while senior Steven Velez (San Antonio, Texas) had a match high nine digs in the victory.

Daniel Webster was paced by freshman Joe Walz (East Longmeadow, Mass.) with 13 kills, nine digs and three blocks while junior Chris Shannon (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) had eight kills and eight digs for the Eagles.  Sophomore Kyle Clement (Weymouth, Mass.) had set 25 assists in the loss for DWC.

With the win Johnson & Wales is now 4-3 for the season while Daniel Webster falls to 1-2 on the year.  The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, February 9th when they host Mount Ida for a Great Northeast Conference contest, starting at 7:00 p.m.
