Men’s Volleyball Splits Tri-Match

The men's volleyball team split a non-conference tri-match with Wentworth and CCNY at WIT on Saturday afternoon.  The Wildcats opened the day with a 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 15-25, 11-25) loss to Wentworth before rebounding with a 3-1 (16-25, 25-11, 25-18, 25-23) win over CCNY.

In the first match of the day Johnson & Wales was led by freshman Alex Viera (Bay Shore, N.Y.) with nine kills and five digs while fellow rookie Shawn Kennedy (West Barnstable, Mass.) had eight kills and 12 digs for the Wildcats.  Freshman Gerard Daniels (Miami, Fla.) had 22 set assists while senior Steven Velez (San Antonio, Texas) had a team-best 14 digs in the setback.

In the win against CCNY, JWU was led by Viera with 13 kills and six digs while Kennedy added eight kills and seven service aces for the Wildcats.  Daniels chipped in with 31 set assists in the victory.

Johnson & Wales is now 2-3 for the season and will return to action on Monday, January 31st when they travel to Lesley for a non-conference contest, starting at 8:00 p.m.
