Men’s Tennis Beats Suffolk 6-3

RIVERSIDE, RI – The Johnson & Wales University men's tennis team got its first win of the season as it started conference action. The Wildcats defeated Suffolk, 6-3, on Saturday.

Johnson & Wales improved to 1-3, 1-0 in the GNAC. The Rams dropped to 3-3 and 0-1 in the league.

JWU found itself down 2-1 after doubles. Gunner Mahoney and Alexander Rohana won an 8-4 decision at number two.  Suffolk won the first singles match, but JWU won the rest to capture the team victory.

Freshman Gianni Rodrigues was a 6-4, 6-1 winner at number two then Rohana tied the match with his 6-4, 6-4 win at number four. Mahoney won his number three match, 6-3, 7-5 then Jack Hopkins secured the team win by beating Rami Esrawi 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 at number five.

JWU is on the road Tuesday to take on Salem State.
