JWU Men’s Tennis Starts GNAC Action With Sweep of Suffolk

WINCHESTER, Mass. – The Johnson & Wales University men's tennis team made short work of GNAC foe Suffolk in the conference opener for both teams. The Wildcats blanked the Rams 9-0 on Saturday at the Winchester Tennis Center.

Johnson & Wales improved to 4-1 while the Rams dropped to 0-5.

JWU remained undefeated in doubles during the spring and ran its streak of consecutive doubles victories to 12 by taking all three from Suffolk. Nicholas Auffret (Holtsville, NY) and Andrew Barbero (Brielle, NJ) were 8-1 winners at number one. Jack Hopkins (Hamilton, Mass.) and Tyler Dupee (Middletown, NY) didn't drop a game at number three on their way to an 8-0 victory. Ryan Schiele (Lusby, Md.) and Taylor Farmer (Carmel, Ind.) rounded out the sweep with an 8-2 decision at number two.

Singles were won just as decisively by the Wildcats. First off the court was Barbero as he rolled past Omar Azzouri in his number one singles match, 6-2, 6-1. His doubles partner Auffret notched the deciding point in the team match when he beat Francesco Saia, 6-1, 6-1 at number two.

Johnson & Wales is on the road Tuesday to take on Western New England at 3:30 p.m.
