Men’s Tennis Knocks Off RIC, 5-4

The men's tennis squad posted a 5-4 victory against intra-state rival Rhode Island College on the road on Monday afternoon.

Johnson & Wales trailed 2-1 after doubles action with the lone victory coming at the second position by freshman Ian Huxel (Newburgh, N.Y.) and freshman Jacob Wanner (Lancaster, Pa.) by a score of 8-2.  The visiting Wildcats turned it around in singles play however, winning four of the six matches, including a 6-4, 6-4 win at the third singles spot en route to the 5-4 victory.  Alex Werchadio notched a pair of victories for the Anchormen, including a  6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 and an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles with Sean Roudanitis.

With the victory Johnson & Wales is now 5-3 on the season while RIC falls to 1-9.  The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, April 11th when they travel to Clark for a non-conference contest, starting at 4:00 p.m.
