PROVIDENCE, RI – The winner of the last four GNAC championships met on the soccer field Saturday. Saint Joseph's College scored the lone goal of the entire match in the first half as the Monks defeated Johnson & Wales University, 1-0.
Saint Joseph's: 3-0, 1-0 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 2-1, 0-1 GNAC
Nicholas Mancini (JWU): 5 saves
Noah Robinson (SJC): 1 goal
Johnson & Wales dodged a bullet in the first half when goalkeeper Nicholas Mancini (Toms Rivier, N.J.) stopped Dalton Gaumer's penalty kick in the 24th minute. The Monks got on the board with 11:31 left in the half when Noah Robinson scored off the pass from Rory Twomey.
Neither team could generate much offense as they combined for 15 shots, eight on goal. Mancini made five saves and the JWU backline didn't allow a shot on goal in the final 45 minutes. Monks' keeper Blake Mullen stopped all three shots he faced.
