PROVIDENCE, RI – The Johnson & Wales University men's soccer team got the first goal of the year midway through the opening half and that was all the scoring they'd need to win their season opener. The Wildcats defeated Colby-Sawyer, 2-0, on Friday.
Johnson & Wales: 1-0
Just before the half, the Wildcats got another goal. Senior Chris Schmid (Clifton Park, N.Y.) headed the ball to Jazario Brimmer (Pembroke, Bermuda) and he lobbed it over the CSC keeper for the first goal of his collegiate career.
Johnson & Wales applied a lot of pressure on the Chargers, outshooting the visitors, 16-5. JWU keeper Nicholas Mancini (Toms Rivier, N.J.) only had to make a pair of saves to record the shutout.
The Wildcats are back on the field Sunday when they welcome Salve Regina for a 5 p.m. contest.
