JWU Men's Soccer Drops 6-1 Decision Against Norwich
East Providence, R.I. – Senior Bobby Begin
(Hardwick, Mass.) scored a pair of goals, including the
game-winner, to lead Norwich to a 6-1 victory against Johnson &
Wales in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's soccer
contest at Pierce Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Norwich jumped out to the early 1-0 lead when freshman Danny
Hudson (Mattituck, N.Y.) tallied an unassisted goal just 2:18 into
the contest. The visiting Cadets went ahead 2-0 on Begin's
first goal of the game at the 16:31 mark. That goal would prove to
be the eventual game winner. Norwich took the 3-0 advantage when
they were awarded a free kick, taken by senior Chris Rivet
(Harrisville, R.I.) who played a ball into the box where freshman
Mike Ravenelle (Merrimack, N.H.) put a shot into the back of the
net at the 24:25 mark. Johnson & Wales got on the board in the
29th minute when senior Eric Flath (Warwick, R.I.) played a through
ball to freshman Matt Pagano (Mahopac, N.Y.) who buried a shot into
the right corner of the next to cut the lead to 3-1. Hudson's
second goal of the game at the 38:10 mark gave Norwich the three
two goal lead into halftime with an 8-6 advantage in shots.
Norwich controlled the action in the second half, scoring a pair
of unanswered goals en route to the 6-1 victory. Junior Joe Ferraro
(Freehold, N.J.) had four saves in the loss for JWU while senior
Charles Maxwell (Rochester, N.Y.) made a pair of stops in the
victory for Norwich.
With the loss Johnson & Wales falls to 2-12 overall and 2-4 in
the GNAC while Norwich improves to 7-6-2, 4-3-1 in league play. The
Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, October 21st when they
travel to Albertus Magnus for a GNAC contest, starting at 3:30
p.m.
