NEWBURGH, NY– Scoring consistently had eluded the Johnson & Wales University men's lacrosse team so far this season. The Wildcats remedied that on Wednesday as they scored six goals in the first half and seven in the second on their way to a 13-11 triumph at Mount St. Mary.
Johnson & Wales spotted the Knights a two-goal lead before scoring five-straight goals. Max Stone (Burlington, Conn.) scored two of his three goals during that run and Thomas Lyons (Burlington, Mass.) finished off the run with a tally.
MSMC pulled within a goal twice and tied the game at 9-9 in the third period, but each time midfielder Eric Russo (West Grove, Pa.) came up with a goal. After the Knights evened the contest at 10-10 with 3:08 to play in the game, Ben Farrell (Downingtown, Pa.) scored two of his three goals and Russo tallied his fourth to secure the victory.
Johnson & Wales had a 46-37 advantage in shots and was 14-of-17 on clears. The Knights committed 19 turnovers, including eight caused by the Wildcats. Farrell and Erik Lindaas (Milford, Pa.) each grabbed a game-high four ground balls as part of JWU's 31 team total.
The Wildcats wrap up a three-game road swing on Friday when they go to UMass Boston for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
