Men’s Lacrosse Turns up the Defense in 17-6 Win Over Millsaps

DEMOREST, Ga. – A balance of steady offense and defense by the Johnson & Wales University men's lacrosse team was the perfect recipe for victory on Saturday. The Wildcats defeated Millsaps College 17-6 in a game that was played at Piedmont College.

Johnson & Wales: 2-1
Millsaps: 2-5

Of Note:
Eric Russo (West Grove, Pa.) scored both of his goals in the first three minutes of the game then proceeded to set up nearly half of JWU's goals the rest of the game. Russo scored a career-high nine points as he tallied seven assists.

The Majors pulled within a goal 65 seconds into the second quarter, but the Wildcats put the game out of reach with six unanswered goals from five different players. Ben Farrell (Downingtown, Pa.) and Max Stone scored the first of their team-high three goals during that run.

Junior Griffin Boyle (Uxbridge, Mass.) made three saves in goal during the first half to get the victory. Bradley Morris (Bayport, NY) recorded eight saves in the second half. Johnson & Wales had a decided 53-27 advantage in shots while winning more faceoffs (17-10) and grabbing more ground balls (20-12).

The Wildcats have their home opener on Wednesday when they play host to Eastern Connecticut State at 4 p.m.
