PAWTUCKET, RI – In the home opener for the Johnson & Wales University men's ice hockey team, the Wildcats found themselves in a physical match with Westfield State.  The Owls and Wildcats played even throughout the game with WSU dominating the second period and the Wildcats controlling the third. Neither team could break through in the extra period as they played to a 3-3 tie.

Of Note:

JWU's Connor Bechtel got the scoring started early when his shot at the second minute of the game got past Westfield State goalie Thierry Messervier.

The second period was all Owls as they got goals from Samuel Gagnon and Rob Neuwirth in the fourth and 17th minutes, respectively, to take a 3-1 lead into the third period. 

The Wildcats' offense came alive with goals from Graham Day and Matt Bernot just two minutes apart to pull even with 8:28 left in the game.  

Two of Westfield State's three goals came on the power play while the Wildcats were 0-of-4 with the man advantage.

The teams were fairly even in shots with JWU holding the slight edge, 34-31.

The Wildcats travel to Maine on Friday to take on Southern Maine at 7pm.
