Second-Period Lull Stops Men’s Ice Hockey 5-4 at Nichols

BURRILLVILLE, RI – Three goals was more than the Johnson & Wales University men's ice hockey team could overcome at Nichols College on Saturday. The Wildcats scored a trio of third-period goals, but came up short, 5-4.

The loss dropped Johnson & Wales to 3-11 in the CCC, 5-16 overall. Nichols upped its record to 13-6-2, 8-4-2 in the conference.

Victor Carlsson swung the puck out to Ryan Sete and his wrist shot from just inside the blue line gave JWU a 1-0 lead just 4:24 into the contest. Nichols evened the game six minutes later on the power play then added a trio of second-half goals.

Just 2:19 in the third period, Sete scored his second goal then Chad Guderian followed 69 seconds later to pull the Wildcats within one. After Nichols' fifth goal, Anthony Scarcella cut the lead to a goal with 11 minutes remaining, but JWU couldn't get the equalizer.

Johnson & Wales has a two-game series with Salve Regina next weekend, starting with a 7:05 p.m. contest Friday at the Seahawks.
