Men’s Hockey Skates to 1-1 Tie at Salve Regina

PORTSMOUTH, RI – A win is always preferred over a tie, but as the Johnson & Wales University men's hockey team fights for a playoff spot, the one point gained by a tie could go a long way. The Wildcats forged a 1-1 tie on the road at second-place Salve Regina on Wednesday.

The tie moved Johnson & Wales' record to 9-11-3 overall and 5-9-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Seahawks go to 13-7-4 and 10-4-3 in the conference. JWU snapped a six-game losing streak to SRU and showed a vast improvement over the 6-1 loss to the Seahawks early in the year.

After Salve Regina got the first goal of the game midway through the second period, the Wildcats evened it up with less than three minutes left in the period. Ryan Sete (Jackson, Mich.) scored his first goal of the season off the pass from Alan Boozer (Detroit, Mich.).

The Seahawks had a slight 39-37 advantage in shots. JWU goalie Joey Ballmer (Kalamazoo, Mich.) made 38 saves, including 14 in the third period. The Wildcats were 0-3 on the power play while the hosts went 0-2.
