Wildcats Fall 4-3 in Overtime at Western New England

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Johnson & Wales University men's ice hockey team built a 3-1 lead but gave up two goals in the final minute of regulation to Western New England University. The Golden Bears got the winner in overtime as they defeated the Wildcats, 4-3, on Saturday.

Of Note:
Johnson & Wales got on the board in the opening period when Ben Brouillard (Somerset, Mass.) scored with two minutes left in the frame. WNEU responded with a power play goal by Matt Smethurst with just four seconds left in the opening stanza.

Alan Boozer (Detroit, Mich.) gave JWU the lead back at the 7:16 mark of the second period and Connor Bates' (Laconia, NH) tally just 2:41 into the third period extended the lead.

The Golden Bears' Matthieu Audet scored with 32 seconds remaining and Josh Twietmeyer tied the game with 18 ticks left on the clock. Twietmeyer tallied the game-winner with just over a minute left in overtime.

Western New England outshot JWU, 44-32, including 37-14 in the last two periods and overtime. Wildcats goaltender Joey Ballmer (Kalamazoo, Mich.) made 40 saves in defeat. Johnson & Wales was 0-4 on the power play while WNEU was 1-5.
