Men’s Hockey Rolls Past Stonehill 4-1

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Three third-period goals broke a 1-1 tie and led the Johnson & Wales University men's ice hockey team to victory on Monday. The Wildcats went on the road to defeat Division II opponent Stonehill, 4-1.

Of Note:
Senior Fran Mackin (Philadelphia, Pa.) got JWU on the board in the first period when he beat the goalie at the 13:45 mark. Connor Bates (Laconia, NH) and Nicholas Gray (Stafford, Va.) picked up the assists.

Stonehill evened the game in the second period when Tommy Newton scored with 3:24 left in the frame.

Johnson & Wales exploded for three goals in the first five minutes of the third period. The trio of third-period goals is a season high.

Bates scored his fifth goal of the year 43 seconds into the frame. Just 25 seconds later, Gray put another past Skyhawk goaltender Billy Palmer. Mackin scored his second goal at the 4:49 mark for the second two-goal game of his career.

Making his first collegiate start, JWU netminder Tyler Ellor (Saratoga Springs, NY) made 19 saves to get his first victory in a JWU uniform. The Wildcats outshot Stonehill, 36-20.
