Wildcats and Greyhounds Skate to 1-1 Tie

PAWTUCKET, RI – Sixty-five minutes was not enough time to determine a winner between the Johnson & Wales University men's ice hockey team and Assumption College. The two teams played to a 1-1 tie on Tuesday.

Records:
Assumption: 2-5-1
Johnson & Wales: 2-4-2

Goalkeepers:
AC: David Zulauf: 28 saves, 1 goal
JWU: Joey Ballmer: 32 saves, 1 goal

JWU Statistical Leaders:

Connor Bates (JWU): 1 goal
Nick Fenuccio (AC): 1 goal

Of Note:
It's the second year in a row the two teams have skated to a tie in their annual pre-Thanksgiving contest. Last year it was a 4-4 draw at Assumption.

Assumption broke through for the first goal of the game just 3:18 into the second period. Nick Fenuccio took a pass just inside the blue line from Paul Amarone and scored on a backhand.

Johnson & Wales' goal was set up when Logan Fortier's (Newport, Vt.) shot from the point was saved, but senior Connor Bates (Laconia, NH) was there to put back the rebound. It was the first point of the season for Fortier. Kevin McDonald (Auburn, Va.), who passed the puck to Fortier, recorded the first point of his collegiate career.

Both goalkeepers were strong between the pipes. JWU's Joey Ballmer (Kalamazoo, Mich.) made 32 saves while the Greyhounds' David Zulauf turned away 28 shots in the first start of his collegiate career.
