MILTON, Mass. – A third period goal helped the Johnson & Wales University men's ice hockey team stop its four-game slide. The Wildcats forged a 3-3 tie at Curry on Saturday.
Johnson & Wales: 2-4-1, 1-4-1 CCC
Curry: 4-2-1, 4-1-1 CCC
JWU: Joey Ballmer: 42 saves, 3 goals
CC: Brett Sinclair: 35 saves, 3 goals
After spotting the Colonels a two-goal lead, Johnson & Wales fought back with two goals in the first seven minutes of the second period. Ben Brouillard (Somerset, Mass.) scored for the second time in three games with a goal just 2:55 into the frame. James Hyatt (Coral Springs, Fla.) and Connor Bates (Laconia, NH) were credited with the assist.
Chad Guderian (Coppell, Texas) scored his first goal of the year four minutes later to tie the game at 2-2. Unfortunately, the Wildcats couldn't keep it even going into the break as Shane Tracy scored with 3:45 left in the period to give Curry the lead back.
Bates recorded his second assist of the game when he set up Nicholas Gray's (Stafford, Va.) tying goal at the 8:02 mark of the third period. The Colonels had an 8-3 advantage in shots during overtime but neither team could score the game-winner.
Keeping the Wildcats in the game was senior goalkeeper Joey Ballmer (Kalamazoo, Mich.). He made a season-high 42 saves, including stopping a penalty shot in overtime.
