The hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie against Becker in an ECAC Northeast contest at Lynch Arena on Saturday evening. The game was the final regular season home game for seniors Matt Anderson (Clinton, Conn.), Kyle Botos (Elyria, Ohio), Tony Galante (Buffalo, N.Y.), Jeremiah Ketts (Foristell, Mo.) and Domenic Recchia (Sterling Heights, Mich.).
Becker jumped out to the early 1-0 lead when junior David Graham (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) put in a pass from freshman Andreas Kohansson (Halland, Sweden) and junior Brandon Parkhouse (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.). Johnson & Wales replied at the 15:48 mark of the first period when Ketts connected on passes from junior Danny Kaufmann (Scotch Plains, N.J.) and Recchia. The teams headed into the locker room tied 1-1.
The two squads each had opportunities in the second and third periods before regulation ended in a 1-1 tie. A five minute overtime period still couldn't decide things as the game ended in a deadlock. Junior Matt Cooper (Perrysburg, Ohio) made 29 saves in net for JWU while senior Jake Rosenthal (Wantagh, N.Y.) made 43 stops for Becker.
With the tie Johnson & Wales is now 13-7-3 for the year and 7-3-2 in the ECAC Northeast while Becker is now 8-13-1 on the year, 3-8-0 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, February 15th when they host Nichols for an ECAC Northeast contest at 7:45 p.m.
