Hockey Blanks Southern New Hampshire, 7-0 In Codfish Bowl

The hockey squad posted a commanding 7-0 victory against Southern New Hampshire in the consolation game of the Codfish Bowl, hosted by UMass Boston over the weekend.  Senior All-American Jeremiah Ketts (Foristell, Mo.) was named to the all-tournament team for the Wildcats.

Johnson & Wales wasted little time getting on the board as freshman Alex Porrier (Rutland, Vt.) scored an unassisted goal just 4:20 into the contest.  The Wildcats extended their lead to 2-0 on a power play goal by sophomore Ian DePasquale (Buffalo, N.Y.) with assists to junior Danny Kaufman (Scotch Plains, N.J.) and fellow junior Jason Pietrasiak (Shrewsbury, Mass.) at the 12:12 mark.  Another power play goal, this time from Ketts at the 16:28 mark, gave the Wildcats the 3-0 lead after the first period of play.

JWU struck early in the second stanza as freshman Logan McDougall (Sarnac Lake, N.Y.) scored his first collegiate goal with assists to Ketts and sophomore Eddie Patterson (Ciniminson, N.J.) for the 4-0 advantage just 3:14 into the period.  Kaufmann then tallied the first of his two goals on the day to propel the Wildcats to a 5-0 lead after two periods of action.

It was all JWU in the third as Kaufmann scored at the 9:03 mark and Pietrasiak notched the 50th goal of his career to propel the Wildcats to the 7-0 victory.

Junior Matt Cooper (Perrysburg, Ohio) made 23 saves in the win for JWU while Max Paluszynski had 13 stops in the loss for the Penmen.

With the win Johnson & Wales is now 8-3-2 for the year while Southern New Hampshire falls to 1-12-1 on the season.  The Wildcats will return to action on Friday, January 13th when they host Buffalo State in a non-conference contest at Lynch Arena at 7:45 p.m.
