Five JWU Standouts Earn All-ECAC Northeast Accolades
The Johnson & Wales University hockey team was honored by the ECAC Northeast as five Wildcats earned post-season recognition. Senior Craig Houle (Burrillville, R.I.) was named a first-team All-ECAC Northeast selection while freshman Jason Pietrasiak (Shrewsbury, Mass.), freshman Max Carter (Royal Oak, Mich.) and fellow rookie Matt Cooper (Perrysburg, Ohio) were named to the conference’s All-Rookie team.
Houle led JWU with 19 goals and 28 assists for 47 points. Of his 19 goals, 10 of them came on the power play while the talented forward also notched a pair of game-winners on the season. Houle ranked fourth nationally with 1.68 points per contest while his 1.0 assists per contest placed him tied for 10th in the NCAA Division III ranks.
Pietrasiak notched 24 goals and 16 assists for 40 points in his rookie campaign for the Wildcats. He tallied three game-winners for the year with 10 power play goals for JWU. His 1.43 points per game ranked him 22nd in the NCAA while his 0.86 goals per game ranked second nationally.
Carter made an immediate impact on defense in his first season in a Wildcat uniform, scoring five goals with seven assists for 12 points while anchoring a JWU defense that allowed just over three goals per game in conference play.
Cooper posted a .918 save percentage and a 2.86 goals against average with a 5-5-1 record on the year. Three of his wins came during conference action.
The Wildcats finished the 2009-10 season with a 12-15-1 overall record, 7-6-1 in league play and reached the finals of the conference championship against Curry.
