Johnson & Wales Hockey Suffers 6-3 Setback Against Southern New Hampshire
North Smithfield, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales
University hockey team dropped a 6-3 decision against Southern New
Hampshire in a non-conference contest at the Rhode Island Sports
Center on Sunday afternoon.
Southern New Hampshire got on the board first when senior John
Frey (Westminster, Colo.) put in an unassisted tally at the 5:18
mark. Johnson & Wales responded at the 13:47 mark when
sophomore Jeremiah Ketts (Foristell, Mo.) scored on a pass from
freshman Jason Pietrasiak (Shrewsbury, Mass.) to knot the game at
1-1. The visiting Penmen regained the 2-1 lead on a goal by
sophomore Brandon Bradley (Wichita, Kan.) at 18:59 and closed out
the period on Frey's second goal of the game as time expired
on the clock to head into the locker room up 3-1.
Johnson & Wales made the game 3-2 midway through the second
period when junior Craig Houle (Burrillville, R.I.) found the back
of the net at the 8:30 mark. Southern New Hampshire controlled the
action for the second half of the period, however as junior Troy
Maybury (South Portland, Maine) tallied what would prove to be the
game-winning goal at the 11:35 mark and Bradley's second goal
of the game at 14:00 gave the Penmen the 5-2 lead.
In the third period, JWU was able to cut the lead to 6-3 on
Pietrasiak's third goal of the season at the 10:13 mark. That
would be as close as the Wildcats would get, however as Southern
New Hampshire held on for the 6-3 victory.
Senior Shane Brooks (Kennebunk, Maine) made 26 saves for Southern
New Hampshire while junior JR Woodland (Picton, Ontario) made 28
saves for Johnson & Wales in the setback.
With the loss Johnson & Wales falls to 0-2 for the season
while Southern New Hampshire improves to 1-0. The Wildcats will
return to action on Wednesday, November 11th when they travel to
Stonehill for a non-conference contest, starting at 7:00 p.m.
