Wildcats Place Sixth at RIC Spring Invitational

WARWICK, RI – A season-low round by Kyle Newcomb led the Johnson & Wales University men's golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Rhode Island College Spring Invitational. The Wildcats carded a 328 at the Valley Country Club.

Postponed due to inclement weather in late March, the tournament was shortened to 18 holes. Western New England won the event with a 300.

Newcomb (Foxboro, Mass.) finished tied for fourth with a score of 74. His previous best round was a 76 at the GNAC Championship.

Next on the team was senior Jon Nelson (Pembroke, Mass.) with an 84. Rookies Alex Parente (North Kingstown, RI) and Christian Maselli (Exeter, RI) were a stroke behind. Rounding out the JWU scores was Chase Cavanaugh (Phoenix, NY) at 87.

Johnson & Wales is back on the links April 22-23 when it hosts the Wildcat Spring Invitational at the Cranston Country Club.
