NASHUA, NH – Six players scored in double figures to lead the Johnson & Wales University men's basketball team to its first victory of the year. The Wildcats won their conference opener by taking down Rivier, 113-70, on Saturday.
Rivier: 0-7, 0-1 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 1-2, 1-0 GNAC
The 113 points are the most the Wildcats have scored since they put up 118 against Emmanuel on January 18, 2016.
Johnson & Wales jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the first two minutes and never looked back. JWU shot 50.7 percent (33-of-73) from the floor, including 15-of-34 (44.1 percent) from three-point range. The Wildcats made a living at the free throw line, going 24-of-36 from the stripe.
Posting his second-straight 20-point game was junior Brian Hogan-Gary (Staten Island, NY) with a game-high 26 points. He also recorded eight assists, seven rebounds and six steals.
Senior Jarell Lawson (Providence, RI) was next with 19 points and rookie Justin Bullock (Spring Valley, NY) followed with 18 points. Freshman Nate Patenude (Smithfield, RI) had 14 points, Randall Ferdinand (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) added 12 points and Matt Madoian (North Kingstown, RI) chipped in 11 more.
Johnson & Wales travels across town to take on Rhode Island College Tuesday at 7 p.m.
