Men’s Basketball Posts 70-65 Win Over Norwich
The men's basketball team posted a 70-65 victory against Norwich in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest on the road on Thursday evening.
Johnson & Wales was led by senior Lamonte Thomas (Providence, R.I.) with 25 points, eight rebounds and five assists while junior David Storti (Exeter, R.I.) had 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Wildcats. Senior James Folk (Salem, N.H.) narrowly missed a double-double with 13 points and nine caroms in the victory.
Antonio Davis paced Norwich with 21 points and 11 rebounds while Tom MacDonald had 18 points and five boards in the setback for the Cadets.
The two teams battled back and forth through the entire first half with neither team holding more than a four point lead with the score tied eight times, including a 28-28 tie heading into the locker room at halftime.
Norwich led 50-46 after a jumper by Evan Tullar with just under seven minutes left on the clock. The Wildcats then used an 11-0 run, capped by a three-pointer by Storti for the 57-50 lead with five minutes remaining. A dunk by Tullar with :26 seconds left on the clock cut the JWU lead to 66-63, but it was not enough as JWU held on for the 70-65 vitory.
With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 7-11 overall and 6-5 in league play while Norwich falls to 5-12 on the season and 4-7 in the GNAC. The Wildcats will return to action on Monday, January 30th when they host Mount Ida for a GNAC contest at 7:00 p.m.
