Men’s Basketball Falls To Albertus Magnus, 109-88
The men's basketball dropped a 109-88 decision against Albertus Magnus in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest on the road on Monday afternoon.
Johnson & Wales was led by senior All-American Lamonte Thomas (Providence, R.I.) with a season-high 49 points, six assists and four rebounds while junior David Storti (Exeter, R.I.) notched a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards. Senior James Folk (Lawrence, Mass.) had 11 points and three caroms for the Wildcats.
Ray Askew paced Albertus Magnus with 36 points and 14 rebounds while Darius Watson had 26 points and eight rebounds in the victory for the Falcons.
The host Falcons jumped out to an early 23-8 lead after a free throw by Askew with 14:55 left in the first half. Albertus Magnus had the 39-19 advantage midway through the stanza before JWU closed the gap to 56-43 heading into the locker room at halftime.
That would be as close as JWU would get as Albertus Magnus continued to build on their lead before cruising to the 109-88 victory. Albertus Magnus shot 59.2% from the field and held a 44-31 rebounding advantage in the contest.
With the loss Johnson & Wales falls to 5-9 overall and 4-3 in league play while Albertus Magnus improves to 13-1 on the season and 8-0 in the GNAC. The Wildcats will return to action on Thursday, January 19th when they travel to Anna Maria for a GNAC contest at 7:00 p.m.
