Johnson & Wales Field Hockey Falls to UMass Dartmouth, 5-1

PROVIDENCE, RI – Visiting UMass Dartmouth jumped out to a quick lead that was too much for the Johnson & Wales University field hockey team to come back from on Monday. The Corsairs outscored the Wildcats, 5-1, in a non-conference matchup.

Statistical Leaders:
Adriana Scala (JWU): 1 Goal
Mary Brown (UMD):  2 Goals
Kylie Dias (UMD): 1 Goal 1 Assist

Records:
Johnson & Wales: 2-7
UMass Dartmouth: 2-8

Goalkeepers:
Clair Nolan (JWU) (L, 0-4) 3 saves
Katelyn Banalewicz (UMD) (1-1), 2 saves

Of Note:
The Corsairs got on the board with a goal in the first two minutes of the game when Mary Brown scored the first of her two goals.

Johnson & Wales fired back 10 minutes later as Jillian Miele broke through the defense, carried the ball to the end line, then sent it across for Adriana Scala to smack into the back of the net.

Unfortunately, UMD scored twice before halftime then added two more goals in the second half.

The Corsairs outshot the Wildcats, 20-6.

Up Next:
Johnson & Wales returns to conference play at 1 pm this Saturday at home against Simmons.
