BRISTOL, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University field hockey team grabbed the lead late in the first half, but couldn't hold on for the victory. Host Roger Williams rallied for a pair of goals as the Hawks defeated the Wildcats, 2-1, on Friday.

With less than five minutes remaining in the opening stanza, junior Adriana Scala (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) took a pass from Shaina Thompson (Delmar, Del.) and put the ball in the right-hand corner for the score.
JWU kept Roger Williams off the scoreboard until the 52:49 mark when Taylor Powell scored. Eleven minutes later Lillian McNeil tallied the eventual winning goal.
The two teams were evenly matched with the hosts holding a slight 14-13 advantage in shots. JWU keeper Claire Nolan (West Bridgewater, Mass.) made five saves.
The Wildcats jump into conference action on Wednesday when they play host to Lasell at 4 p.m. in their home opener.
