IHSA Places Fourth at URI Show

LEEDS FERRY , Conn. – The Johnson & Wales University IHSA equestrian team just missed out on a second-place finish at the URI Show on Saturday. 

The host Rams won the event with 32 points. Rhode Island College and Brown tied for second at 29.

Turning in a first-place was Katie Cassidy in novice on flat. Hayley Bernardo also recorded a top-three finish in that event.

Sophomore Jennifer DePietro had a pair of second-place performances. She earned the red ribbon in open over fences as well as intermediate on flat.

The Walker family had two top-three finishes. Senior Caitlyn Walker was second in novice over fences while her younger sister Cassandra Walker was third in advanced walk trot canter. In the second group of novice over fences, Alanna Ryan took second.

Group two of advanced walk trot canter saw Kristen Bernard take second and Kaitlyn Arruda was third. In the final group, Lauren Cheney placed second.

Sophia Johnston recorded a second-place finish in intermediate over fences. Third-place performances were turned in by Victoria Gouldrup in beginner walk trot canter and Arrianna Landry in walk trot.

Johnson & Wales gets back into competition on Sunday at the UMass Dartmouth show that was postponed on October 27 due to inclement weather.
