Wilbur and Karasek Qualify for IDA Equestrian Nationals

NEWBURGH, Maine – A good performance at the final event of the regular season qualified two members of the Johnson & Wales University IDA equestrian team for nationals. Nicole Wilbur and Charlotte Karasek earned a spot at nationals following Saturday's University of Maine Spring Show.

Wilbur (Greenwich, NY) qualified in the first level division and Karasek (Renton, Wash.) will take part in the upper training competition. As a team, the Wildcats placed fourth at Saturday's show and finished second in the region behind New Hampshire by just one point.

At the Maine show, Wilbur placed fourth in first level with a score of 69.063 percent. Karasek had a score of 69.230 percent to take fifth in upper training.

JWU will have a pair of alternates at nationals. Morgan Mindrebo (Wellfleet, Mass.) took second in the region for lower training and freshman Maggie Dickey (Cumberland, Maine) was runner-up in intro division.

The highest finisher on Saturday was Courtney Broderick as she placed third in upper training with a 70.577 percent. Mindrebo scored 64.348 percent to take fourth in lower training.

The IDA National Championships are set for April 29-30 at Centenary College.
