GREENSBORO, NC –Given the opportunity to be an everyday player for the Johnson & Wales University baseball team, sophomore Colby Greenhalgh showed what he was capable of doing. He was recognized for his efforts with an American Baseball Coaches Association /Rawlings Third-Team New England All-Region selection.
It's the second year in a row that JWU has had an all-region selection. Greenhalgh is the team's ninth all-region player and the first catcher.
After sharing the catching duties last year, Greenhalgh took over as the main guy behind the plate in 2018. He's Top 10 in the GNAC for batting average, runs, doubles, triples, RBIs and slugging percentage. Named to the GNAC All-Tournament team, the Plainfield, Conn. native led the league with 41 RBIs.
On April 30 he was named GNAC Player of the Week after hitting .643 with a 1.000 slugging percentage. That week he had a trio of hits against Salve Regina and Norwich as part of his 16 multi-hit games. Greenhalgh set career-highs with four hits and eight RBIs during JWU's GNAC Tournament victory over Anna Maria.
Johnson & Wales lost in the semifinals of the GNAC Tournament over the weekend. The Wildcats should be poised for another tournament run as they bring back most of the lineup that led the GNAC in offensive production.
