PROVIDENCE RI – The Rhode Island College baseball team rallied for a pair of runs in the ninth inning to defeat Johnson & Wales University. The Wildcats dropped a 5-4 contest to the Anchormen.
Rhode Island College: 12-8
Johnston & Wales: 15-7
JWU only had one hit in the fifth, but tied the game with a pair of runs. Tim Lombardi beat out a double play that allowed Rob Ballinger – who started the inning with the lone hit – to score. Third baseman Bryan Bessler reached on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded, scoring Will Fritz.
The Anchormen got a run back in the eighth then the winning runs in the bottom of the ninth. Brad Douglas hit a two-out single to score a pair of runs off JWU reliever Josh Mousseau.
Johnson & Wales is on the road Friday to take on UMass Dartmouth at 3:30 p.m.
