WINTHROP, Mass – For a starting pitcher, you can't beat not giving up any runs and Johnson & Wales University senior Keith Grant did that twice during the Wildcats' spring break trip. For his efforts, he was named GNAC Pitcher of the Week as announced by the league office.
It's the second weekly award of his career with the first on April 4, 2016. The last JWU pitcher to be recognized by the league was Lane Compton on March 6, 2017. Saint Joseph's Anthony DiPrizio and Zach Begin were named Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
A native of East Providence, Grant won both of his starts last week against York and Lehman. The senior did not surrender a run during 15 innings of work. He struck out 12 while allowing just nine hits and walking only two.
Johnson & Wales plays its home opener Sunday with a 12 p.m. doubleheader against Mass Maritime.
