Baseball Opens Season with 11-0 Rout of York

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – With most of last year's starting lineup gone due to graduation, Johnson & Wales University baseball coach John LaRose wasn't quite sure what to expect from the Wildcats in their season opener. JWU got the 2018 campaign off to a great start with an 11-0 victory over York at the Ripken Experience Complex.

York: 0-1
Johnson & Wales: 1-0

Statistical Leaders:
Keith Grant: 8 IP, 7 K, 5 H
Raimiel Rodriguez: 3-5, 2 R, 3 RBI
Tim Lombardi: 2-5, 2 R

Of Note:
The Wildcats got a great pitching performance from senior Keith Grant. He threw eight shutout innings, striking out seven while only surrendering five hits and two walks. Grant did not allow a  runner to get past second base.

Shortstop Raimiel Rodriguez singled in Aidan Hagarty – who reached on an RBI double – in the second inning. Rodriguez scored on an error in the fourth inning to extend JWU's lead to 4-0.

JWU broke open the game with a seven-run ninth inning. Outfielder Rob Ballinger had a two-run single then Rodriguez added a two-run double. In his JWU debut, Rodriguez went 3 of 5 with two runs scored and three RBIs.
