NEWTON, Mass. – Big innings did in the Johnson & Wales University baseball team during its GNAC doubleheader on Saturday at Lasell. The Lasers scored six runs in the fourth inning of game one and four in the first inning of game two to win 7-6 and 7-4.

Lasell: 7-12, 4-2 GNAC
The Lasers answered with a run in their half of the first then erupted for six runs in the fourth. Two JWU errors and a pair of walks by pitcher Keith Grant (East Providence, RI) helped Lasell score the half dozen runs.
The Wildcats tried to stage a comeback in the top of the seventh. Lou Umberto (Cranston, RI) recorded his second hit of the game with a double to score a pair of runs. He came around to score when Mercado drove in his second run of the game. Armani Henderson (Johnston, RI) reached based for the second time in the inning to load the bases, but Joe Maracic (Syosset, NY) struck out to end the game.
Lasell banged out four hits and game-two starter Lane Compton (Freeland, Mich.) issued two walks as the hosts got out to fast 4-0 lead. Ivan Reyes (Cranston, RI) hit his first home run since his freshman year in the fifth and the Wildcats tried to make another comeback in the seventh. Rob Ballinger (South Kingstown, RI) brought home a pair of runs with a two-out double, but LC starter Matt Haskell got the final out for the complete game victory.
The Wildcats travel to Salve Regina on Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
