JWUs Jonathan Melendez Named All-New England
Providence, R.I. – Johnson & Wales University senior Jonathan Melendez (Providence, R.I.) was named a first-team All-New England selection, as announced by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association. The standout third baseman was one of only four players from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference to earn such accolades. He is also just the fourth player in school history to earn the award.
Melendez was among the conference leaders in every statistical category, hitting .420 while adding 39 runs and 44 RBI for the Wildcats. He also set a new school record with 12 home runs while notching 17 doubles and 13 stolen bases on the season. During the 2010 campaign he had 24 multi-hit games, including a 5-for-7 performance with three home runs against intra-state rival Rhode Island College.
He leaves JWU after completely re-writing the school’s record books, finishing in the top five in nearly every offensive category.
With the selection, Melendez will participate in the annual NEIBA All-Star Game at Fenway Park on Sunday, June 6th at 3:00 p.m.
