WINTHROP, Mass. – On the court and the field, the Johnson & Wales University athletics department is at the top of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. The Wildcats are also leaders in the classroom as 98 student-athletes were named to the GNAC Academic All-Conference Team as announced by the league office.
In order to be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least 3.25 cumulative grade point average and reached second-year academic status at the institution. Only Emmanuel (100) had more honorees than JWU.
Leading the way was the Johnson & Wales softball team as they placed a department-best 12 student-athletes on the academic all-conference squad. Men's lacrosse and women's soccer followed with 10 honorees apiece.
Head coach Kim Camara-Harvey's squad also led the way with the highest percentage of student-athletes acknowledge by the GNAC. The softball team had 80 percent (12-of-15) of its eligible players make the team. Field hockey followed at 70 percent (7-of-10) and women's tennis was next at 67 percent (4-of-6).
It was another great year in the classroom for the Wildcats. As a department, JWU had a 3.21 GPA and 16 teams had a GPA of 3.0 or better.
